SÉLECTION 2013
JOSEPH PERRIER cuvée Royale 2002
Joseph Perrier created the house in 1825. Less than 100 years later the champagnes were being drunk at the Royal Court in England, hence the title Cuvee Royale. Today Joseph Perrier is the only house still making champagne in Chalons en Champagne. Claude Dervin, who, like his father and his grandfather, is chief winemaker and cellar-master at Joseph Perrier, controls the production of Joseph Perrier, with about 20% of our grapes today coming from our own vineyards. (21 ha). The 2002 harvest took place under ideal conditions with warm days and cool nights; perfect for excellent health and maturity in the grapes. The blend is half Chardonnay, the balance being mostly Pinot Noir with just a « cloud » of Pinot Meunier. The nose is elegant with floral notes and hints of spice with ripe fruit characters. On the palate the style is rich and appealing, disturbingly easy to enjoy, yet with the backbone and structure to match with rich fish dishes or with white meats served with a well-reduced intense sauce. It has the concentration and balance to be most enjoyable for at least the next three years. More discreet perhaps, with a citrus character and touch of nuts and butter is the Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2004. Elegant and long it is the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to delicate seafood dishes.

Le Point

DÉCEMBRE 2012
Joséphine 2004. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, aged a long time in the cellars in Chalons where Joseph Perrier has some of the most beautiful galleries in Champagne.
A mineral nose, with chalk, pineapple, mineral citrus, very tasty. A ripe wine, fine spicy very clean. A perfect dosage makes it very easy to enjoy with food..

Cuvée Joséphine 2OO4 – Arts and Crafts
If there is one virtue that one can attribute to this house it is that of fidelity. Continuing the tradition started by Joseph Perrier such that they are the last house making wine in the city / town ( ?) of Chalons..
Faithful still to the village of Cumieres where the house has 9Ha of vineyards. And faithful still to the traditional methods of making champagne with manual remuage, continuing the artisanal traditions of champagne. This is most evident in the rare Cuvée Joséphine the crowning glory of the house run by Jean-Claude Fourmon, direct descendant of the Pithois family who took over Joseph Perrier in 1888. The production of Joséphine is tiny, there have been only eight vintages in the market since the launch of the first, 1982 in 1989. (NOTE ERROR IN FRENCH VERSION 8 NOT 7)
The 2004 now succeeds the 2002, as always presented in the bottle decorated with gold, this bottle passes through twelve sets of hands in its’ production according to Jean-Claude Fourmon. A blend of Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages, mainly Chardonnay (52 %), including some rare Cumieres Blanc, this artisanal product involved the most careful selection before spending 6 years in bottle. It will reach its’ peak in ten to twenty years!

NOVEMBRE 2012
2OO4 «JOSEPHINE» CUVEE
Josephine, a sparkling brunette with smoldering eyes, was the apple of her father’s eye. Her father was Joseph Perrier, the founder of the firm of the same name.
Aware of the special nature of youth, the wine dealer - who was surrounded by the wealth and pomp of
the courts of England and Russia - dedicated the most sumptuous of the cuvees to his daughter, giving it
her name. He devised a work of art, a bottle hand-painted painted straight onto the glass, and decorated
with fine gold. The arrival of industrialisation sounded the death knell for the fabulous cuvee, which was
considered a folly. When Jean-Claude Fourmon wanted to launch a tête de cuvée in 1990, he thought of
Josephine and her timeless beauty, and revived her. The tête de cuvee contains only Premiers Crus and
Grands Crus, and cellaring has been increased to seven years to obtain its quintessence, lt should be noted
that there have only been five vintage years since the 1980s: 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995.
