The 2026 harvest in Champagne will be remembered for its exceptionally early timing. Due to spring weather conditions and the intense summer heat, the grapes ripened at a particularly rapid pace, resulting in one of the earliest harvests in the history of Joseph Perrier.
The grape harvest began on August 12, 2026
At Champagne Joseph Perrier, in Châlons-en-Champagne, the first cuts were made on August 12, 2026, with the harvest of our Chardonnays. A few days later, starting on August 17, it was our Pinots’ turn to be pressed.
With nearly all of the 2026 harvest completed during the month of August, this marks a first for our house. This remarkably early harvest reflects a particularly rapid ripening cycle in the Champagne vineyards this year.
Grapes of exceptional quality
In addition to being exceptionally early, this harvest also stands out for the quality of the grapes harvested. The Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Meuniers are in excellent condition, have reached a very good level of ripeness, and retain good acidity levels.
Sugar levels, which are particularly high this year, also highlight the uniqueness of the 2026 vintage. These characteristics yield a particularly rich raw material, and it will be essential to preserve all of its freshness and balance.
The cellar master's work begins
Once the grapes have been harvested and pressed, a new phase begins. With such a rich raw material at her disposal, the work of Nathalie Laplaige, cellar master at Champagne Joseph Perrier, will be essential in achieving the balance, freshness, and elegance that characterize the House’s style.
From winemaking to blending, the coming months will gradually reveal the potential of this exceptional vintage.
An early harvest and grapes of exceptional quality: 2026 is definitely shaping up to be a year like no other for Champagne Joseph Perrier.
